About Bored Studies

Find the research. Understand the process. Make an informed decision. Bored Studies is an independent educational resource for people curious about paid clinical research in the U.S.

The guide’s author

The free guide was written by Spencer Wabel. Spencer has participated in several clinical trials, mostly in Salt Lake City, and has helped others find opportunities at research sites including PPD and JBR. Their professional background is in finance, sales, marketing and entrepreneurship.

Spencer isn’t a medical professional, and the guide’s observations about studies, sites and pay are personal experiences, not medical advice or industry data. No research organization has endorsed or sponsored the guide or this site.

How we verify the directory

  • Every organization starts from the guide’s resource list (last updated by the author in June 2024).
  • We check each organization’s official website and record only what it says: locations, the kinds of studies it describes and whether pay is shown publicly.
  • Each listing shows the date it was last checked. We re-check links regularly and flag ones that stop working.
  • We don’t list individual trials, eligibility criteria or enrollment status, because those change too quickly to keep accurate.

What we won’t do

  • Invent trials, pay amounts or testimonials
  • Promise acceptance or compensation
  • Share your information with research sites or advertisers
  • Use urgency or pressure to get your email
