Privacy policy
Bored Studies is an independent educational website about paid clinical research. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We’ve tried to keep it plain.
What we collect
When you request the free guide
- Your first name and email address (required to deliver the guide)
- Your state, only if you choose to provide it
- Whether you ticked the optional marketing box, the exact wording you agreed to, and when
- The page you signed up from and any campaign tags in the link you followed (for example utm_source)
- The date of your request and whether the guide email was delivered
We don’t ask for, and you shouldn’t send us, health information, medical history, income, debt, credit scores or government ID numbers.
When you use the contact form
Your name, email address and message.
Analytics
If you choose “Allow analytics” in our privacy banner, your browser sends anonymous interaction events to our own server, such as “guide button clicked”, “directory searched” or “outbound link to a research site clicked”. These events don’t include your name, email or any health details, and we don’t set advertising cookies. If you choose “Essential only”, these events aren’t sent. We still count guide requests and PDF downloads in aggregate so the site can function and we can measure whether it’s working. You can change your choice any time via “Cookie settings” in the footer.
We don’t send any data, including anything you search for in the directory, to advertising platforms. Your privacy choice is stored in your browser’s local storage, not a cookie.
Technical data
To prevent spam and abuse, we process your IP address to rate-limit submissions. We store only a one-way hash of it, temporarily. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs.
How we use it
- To email you the guide and give you a download link
- To prevent duplicate or fraudulent submissions
- To answer messages you send us
- To understand which pages and tools are useful, in aggregate
- To send promotional emails only if you separately opted in (see below)
Optional marketing emails
The guide form includes an optional, unchecked box. If you tick it, you agree to the following:
Also email me occasional updates from Bored Studies: new research companies, guide updates and, in the future, clearly labeled sponsored offers (which may include financial products). I can unsubscribe at any time.
You get the guide either way. We record the wording and time of your consent. Every promotional email will include an unsubscribe link, and you can also unsubscribe on our unsubscribe page or by contacting us.
Sharing
We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t share your contact details with research organizations, advertisers or affiliate partners. If we ever partner with financial-service providers, any offers will be shown on our site or in emails you opted into; your details won’t be passed to those partners unless you choose to apply with them directly on their site.
We use service providers to run the site, and they process data only on our behalf:
- Vercel (website hosting)
- Our database provider (lead and message storage)
- Resend (sending the guide email)
We may disclose information if required by law.
How long we keep it
We keep guide-request records while they’re useful for delivering the guide and any emails you opted into, and delete them on request. Rate-limit records are deleted within a few days.
Your choices and rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, or withdraw marketing consent, by contacting us. Depending on where you live (for example California under the CCPA/CPRA), you may have additional rights, and we’ll honor them. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Security
Data is sent over HTTPS and stored with access restricted to the site administrator. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we’ll update the date above and, where appropriate, let subscribers know.
